Controlled adjustment with Energyst cooling

During a planned shutdown at BP Chembel in Geel (Belgium), Energyst cooling systems are used to provide a heat exchanger with the required flow of chilled water for the condensation of the primary gas flow, so that a controlled burn of waste products can be performed. Due to the critical nature of this process, BP opts for a setup with redundancy: an extra chiller is connected alongside the other, both electrically and to the water supply. Both BP's collectors and the Energyst chillers are fitted with butterfly valves to allow easy adjustment of the system during operation. An Energyst technician remains on 24-hour standby (in shifts: 12 hours on/12 hours off) during the regeneration process to be available for optimal operation of the temporary chiller. For monitoring purposes, the technician wears a combustible gas detector at all times within the EX zone in question.

Shut down

The Energyst machines were set up for 1½-2 weeks at the start of the scheduled big shutdown. At all times during this project, safety was the prime consideration.
